Introductory Remarks
December 12, 2022
The last two years, Greece turned its gaze to two important anniversaries, each with a different significance: 2021 was the bicentennial of the epic struggle for Greek independence in 1821, and 2022 marked the centenary of the dramatic destruction of Hellenism in Asia Minor in 1922.
In both of these seminal events, the Greeks of the diaspora played a decisive role, contributing, on the one hand, to the success of the independence struggle and, on the other, imbuing the native population, in 1922 and after, with new ideas and mores, which contributed to the national, institutional and developmental integration of Greece, in what became an unexpected, to many, success story, that has become part of the Greek national narrative.
Even today, Greeks living abroad ardently wish to contribute to their native land, this time not with weapons, but with their knowledge, experience and, of course, the constant and selfless love Greeks have for their homeland, no matter where they find themselves in the world.
In this spirit, the idea was born, about two years ago, to organize a Conference that would bring together Greek senior executives working in large international companies abroad, with the aim of having them make practical proposals for attracting investment to Greece.
When we announced the first The Greeks Are Back Conference in 2020, we made clear that we intended to make our initiative a recurring, landmark event. Thanks to the many distinguished and accomplished executives, who generously gave their time and shared their knowledge, the first two Conferences were a resounding success. And we are certain that we will have very interesting and useful proposals at the 3rd The Greeks Are Back Conference, set to take place take place in November 2023.
