Iannis Drakos

Iannis Drakos (he/his) is Head of Data Science and Director at Lundbeck, a leading global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Denmark with a presence in over 100 countries. In his current role, Iannis leads a team within the Clinical Development organization that provides support for both drug research and development.

With over 20 years of experience in the field, Iannis is a respected expert in health data standardization and analytics. He has been at the forefront of research in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Knowledge Graphs, Computer Vision, Generative AI, and eXplainable AI, pioneering new applications and driving innovation in the field.

Iannis is deeply committed to advancing the role of data science in de-risking R&D activities and is actively involved in regulatory discussions (EU/US) around AI’s inclusion in medicines. He is also an active collaborator of OHDSI.org and a valued early contributor to EHDEN.eu.

Prior to joining Lundbeck, Iannis worked in various prestigious organizations, including the Danish national vision for Precision Medicine, the European Society for Clinical Cell Analysis, Sorbonne University (France), and Patras University (Greece). Throughout his career, Iannis has developed first-time solutions to open problems, made notable open-source contributions, and successfully led international collaborative projects. He has over a decade of experience teaching and has published several peer-reviewed articles.

Iannis holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in computer science, as well as a PhD in health data sciences.
